Iringa Hope works in the rural villages of Iringa, Tanzania to alleviate poverty by developing of locally owned and operated micro finance cooperatives.  Called SACCOS, these cooperatives provide their members with the training, education, and resources to improve their farming techniques and thus their incomes. A typical member is a female head of household farmer with 4 acres of land.  Within 2 years of joining, she will likely triple her family income resulting in the elimination of malnutrition within her family (38% among the children in this area), the education of all of her children, and improvements in the health and vitality of the family.  Once established, these SACCOS are self-governing and self-supporting providing for a long term sustainable program.  The overall organization for Iringa Hope is housed in the Peter J King Family Foundation Development Building on the University of Iringa campus.  Iringa Hope is also developing Farmers cooperatives to provide better prices for the crops that our members raise.  SACCOS and AMCOS are jointly housed in Peter J King Family Foundation Integrated Development Centers located in the villages.  There are currently have 30 village locations providing assistance to over 2,400 families representing 15,000 family members.
